BOMBAY: Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said Friday that the situation in Punjab was collapsing fast and members of minority communities were fleeing from that state for safety.
Addressing a press conference at Bombay’s Santa Cruz airport Gandhi said there were more weapons in “‘gurdwaras”’ (Sikh Temples), in Punjab. Fundamentalism is growing there about 400 people were killed in Punjab by militants during the last eight weeks, Gandhi said.
He said the administration did practically not exist in three bordering districts of Punjab because of military and the pro-Sikh state movement there, he said.
