NEW DELHI: India has conveyed its concern to France on the sale of a nuclear power plant to Pakistan as it would accelerate the nuclear arms race in the region.
The spokesman declined to say how New Delhi had conveyed its concern to France.
He said India’s nuclear program was neither weapon oriented nor clandestine.
US concern brushed aside
DHAKA: French President Francois Mitterrand said Friday France’s nuclear power plant agreement with Pakistan has built in mechanism for international supervision to safeguard any possible aberrations.
Commenting on the US criticism of the Pak French nuclear agreement, President Mitterrand said “we are in perfect equanimity, both being no signatory to the NPT. It was agreed that Pakistan would be subject to control by international atomic agencies for check.”
He was replying to questions at a crowded press conference on the penultimate day of his three day visit to Bangladesh which saw the signing of an agreement for a 140 million France aid for an action plan for flood control in Bangladesh.
France has also agreed to help Bangladesh in twelve other sectors.
