BEIJING: Chinese Defense Minister Qin Jiwel is visiting Islamabad this week, the Pakistan embassy confirmed here Friday, while Chinese foreign minister Qian Qichen was reported to have ‘‘paid tribute’’ to the Pakistani stand on Kashmir.

General Qin, heading a high level 10-member delegation, will be in Pakistan from February 19 to 27 before leaving for Bangladesh and Thailand.

A Pakistan embassy spokesman said Kashmir was likely to come up for discussion during the Chinese defense delegation’s visit to Pakistan.

The Pakistani spokesman added that the visit had been pending for “tone or two years,” and was to have taken place “much before the unfortunate incidents.”

The Chinese foreign ministry spokesman failed to announce the visit at his regular weekly news briefing Thursday.
