NEW DELHI: Former Bihar chief minister, Abdul Ghafoor, Friday resigned from the primary membership of Congress-I holding party president Rajiv Gandhi responsible for the party’s debacle in last November Lok Sabha elections.

‘When contacted here, Ghafoor also a former federal minister said he had sent in his resignation letter to Rajiv Gandhi.

Though he had not yet taken any decision to join any political party, he would campaign for nominees of parties constituting the National Front in the forthcoming February 27 assembly elections.

However, sources close to Ghafoor indicated that he was likely to join the Janta Dal soon.

Sources said one of the reasons for Ghafoor’s resignation was also denial of justice of his supporters in selection for candidates by the party for contesting the assembly elections in Bihar.

Ghafoor was chief minister of the eastern state of Bihar from 1973 to 1975.
