CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO) has decided to set up a three member committee to enquire into the violation of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
This decision was taken at an emergent meeting of the body here on Friday.
The members of the committee would include Maj, Gen. Narinder Singh (Retd), Vice Chairman, Mr. Malwinder Singh Mali, general secretary and Mr. Balwinder Singh Dhillon, president of the Bathinda unit of the PHRO.
The team would visit Jammu and Kashmir and meet political and social organizations, journalists, intellectuals and eye witnesses to the violation of human rights. The committee would submit its report to the Government and the national and international human rights organizations.
Addressing the meeting, the PHRO chairman, Mr. Ajit Singh Bains, said all those believing in the democratic system should support the demand of the Kashmiri people for self-determination. He said it was the Union government which had accepted the demand for self-determination 40 years ago.
