UNITED NATIONS, NY: A demonstration was held by the Kashmiris and Sikhs, in front of this world body on February 12 to protest the Indian massacre of the Kashmiris, which they said included over 750 causalities since April 1989 and over 400 in this year alone.
About 1000 people, including a number of Sikhs, participated in the demonstration which was organized by the Islamic Circle of North America, and in which Kashmiri and Muslim organizations of the tri state area took part, They chanted anti-India slogans, condemned the Indian oppression in Kashmir and Indian denial to implement UN resolutions of 1948 and 1948 which called for a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir so that the people could exercise their right to self-determination.
Prominent speakers at the demonstration included Gulam Nabi Fai from the Indian Occupied Kashmir, Dr. Abdul Rehman of the Kashmir Federation of USA, Imam Siraj Wahbaj of Masjid At Taqwa, Brooklyn, and Abus Shakoor of the Islamic Circle of North America.
Harbhajan Singh, Vice President of the World Sikh Organization also addressed the rally, and said that Sikhs and Kashmiris were facing a common foe. The tallying then chanted “Indian forces get out of Khalistan.”
Sikhs had also participated in a similar rally on February S and earlier, a resolution, had been unanimously passed by 35 Sikh organizations form United Kingdom, Canada and United States, and at the Panthic Conference held at Sikh Cultural Society, Richmond Hill.
