FAIRFAX STATION, VA: Sikh Foundation of Virginia celebrated Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Gurpurb on January 7, 1989. They started the gurpurb on January 4, 1989, at evening from 7:30 to 9:30 with kirtan by children and ladies. Giani Kuldeep Singh recited shabads and Katha was recited by Giani Sardul Singh Baggi. More than 150 people attended that program.
Sri Akhand Path Sahib started the next day in the morning. On Saturday, there was a special program which the kids from all over the Washington Metropolitan Area. The coordinator of the special program was Harpreet Kaur Hansra. The gurdwaras that participated were: Sikh Foundation of Virginia, Guru Nanak Foundation of America, Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, Baltimore Gurdwara and Washington Sikh Center. The program was followed by langar.
The next day, Sri Akhand Path’s bhog was held, following with Assa Di Waar by Raagi Gurmukh Singh and Harpal Singh from New York. Afterwards, SFV children and ladies recited shabads for half an hour at beginning, and middle of program. Giani Kuldeep Singh recited shabads a katha was done. By Giani Sardul Singh Ji. Raagi Gurmukh Singh had recited shabads. There was a poem and a speech done by the youth, Arjun S. Sethi and Balpreet K. Sandhu, two kavitas were done by Ajit S. Dhariwal and Jagjit S. Rathore. All of them praised Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The sampati was done by the Sikh Foundation of Virginia youth at about 2:30 pm. Langar was served all day.
