SHAWNEE, KS: On Jan 12, 1990, Harinder S. Nezar and Gurdit S. Dandass attended an interfaith luncheon in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. A large group of people, including rabbis and reverends, attended this celebration. Both, Gurdit and Harinder participated in this annual luncheon and represented the Sikh faith among fifteen other faiths who participated. While giving his selection in a very eloquent and articulate manner, Harinder explained the similarities between the philosophies of Dr. King and Guru Arjan Dev and Guru Gobind Singh. Harinder quoted Guru Gobind Singh and emphasized his strong beliefs of recognizing the whole human race as one entity. Gurdit blessed the food by quoting a stanza from the fifth Guru’s composition, the “Sukhmani Sahib.” The Interfaith Luncheon was sponsored by the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) and “harmony in a world of difference.”
