NEW DELH: The new Government has dismissed an opposition party corporation that controls major utilities and services here in the capital, accusing it of inefficiency.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation, which looks after services like sanitation, roads and housing, and which is made up of elected representatives, is the first such grouping to be dismissed by Prime Minister V.P. Singh’s Government, which took office last month.
The corporation, run by the Congress party of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was elected in 1983 for a two year term, and extended two times by Mr. Gandhi. No date has been set for fresh elections to the corporation.
