KHUDIAN: The body of the newly elected Akali Dal (Mann) MP, Jagdev Singh Khudian, was cremated amidst chanting of religious slogans at his native village, Khudian, in Faridkot district of Punjab on Thursday afternoon.
The cremation was attended by the union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Akali Dal (M) chief, Simranjit Singh Mann, his party MPS and thousands of Akali workers.
The cremation took place a few hundred meters away from the Rajasthan canal from where his highly decomposed body was found Wednesday after a week long search operations.
The ceremony took place in a tense atmosphere with Akali Dal workers, some of them carrying arms, alleging foul play in the death.
They shouted antigovernment and anti-police slogans as the home minister left the venue after the ceremony along with Punjab police chief, K P S Gill.
