OSLO, Feb 3: The Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize along with the second time nominees the Soviet leader Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev and the former US President, Mr. Ronald Reagan, Norwegian television said on Thursday.

The Dalami Lama, exiled spiritual leader of Tibet, former Czechoslovak foreign minister, Mr. Jiri Hajek, and Joao Hayelance, head of International Football Federation (FIFA), are also among around 90 candidates for the 1989 peace prize, the state TV report said.

Mr. Reagan and Mr. Gorbachev were nominated for last year’s award after signing the first superpower arms treaty to cut nuclear arsenals.

The 1989 nominations list includes several names that have come up before the Philippines President, Ms. Corzaon Aquino, the jailed South African black nationalist, Mr. Nelson Mandela, and the Geneva based World Health Organization (WHO).

Around 70 individuals and 20 Organizations are estimated to be on the nominations list.
