JULLUNDUR, India: The Punjab Director General of Police J.F. Rebeiro on Thursday said that violence could not disappear overnight from the State. Ribeiro who was on a visit to the site of car bomb explosion which took place on Tuesday told newsmen that he was determined to fight the violence. He however admitted that freedom fighters can too hit back at any of the unexpected moment.

About the recent bomb explosion, he said that the terrorist’s main aim was to create panic among the peace loving people. He disclosed that police has nabbed a person at Bagha Purana carrying a similar explosive device which was used at Jullundur. Ribeiro informed the press that 20 freedom fighters have been killed in police encounters since the imposition of Presidential Rule in Punjab. About 263 persons out of nine hundred arrested by the police have been released after verification, he added.

Earlier he had a two hour long meeting with police and other paramilitary force officers at Jullundur.
