JERUSALEM (PTI): India would take up an active cultural exchanges program along with a series of measures to promote bilateral ties with Israel.
Visiting Indian human resources development minister Arjun Singh met the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres recently and reviewed the progress the two countries have made since normalization of Indo-Israeli ties in 1992.
Some 60000 Indian Jews have migrated to Israel. In the wake of this migration are involved some highly valued cultural objects. Muscum authorities of both India and Israel are now discussing ways: to preserve them.
In course of Singh’s current visit, the two countries are also engaged in talks on 4 series of sister-University relationships. During the meeting with Press, ‘Singh conveyed India’s appreciation of the’ Israel-Palestine joint peace venture. Peres briefed Singh on the state of the peace process in west Asia. Russia’s intention of using the visit to counter the view that it is a west-oriented country is evident from the level of reception being prepared for Rao as well as the meetings the Indian Prime Minister is slated to have during his three-day visit starting on June 29.
Rao is scheduled to meet virtually the entire top Russian leadership, including a one-on-one meeting with President Boris Yeltsin on June 30, which is to be followed by the signing of several bilateral agreements.
The exact number of agreements to be signed is not yet known, bur officials are frenetically giving final touches to a couple of political documents.
