CHANDIGARH: Two women who were paraded in the streets of Amritsar with blackened faces and a garland of “chappals” around their necks have moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking registration of a criminal case against Gabbar, a politically influential member of the ruling party. Mala and Menu have alleged that the SHO, Balkar Singh, had detained them in the police station Vijay Nagar on false charges. When they were produced before the executive magistrate, they submitted that Gabbar was trying to force them into developing illicit relations with a number of people.

Har Naresh Singh Gill, counsel for the petitioners, alleged that when Gabbar learnt of the charge, he directed his henchmen to blacken the faces of the women and parade them in the streets of the city. Innumerable attempts by the petitioners to get a case registered against the accused failed as the local police was also under his influence the counsel charged.
