It has come to my attention that in many Gurdwaras, the Perchoraks and the Kirtani Jathas have been talking about the persecution of Sikhs two centuries ago by the Muslim rulers. The atrocities they committed against the Sikh nation deserve to be remembered. But they pale by comparison to the genocidal atrocities currently being committed against the Sikh nation by the tyrannical Indian regime.
The enormity of the Sikh nation’s current oppression by India surpasses the atrocities of the Moguls many times over. These terrible acts need to be remembered. But focusing attention on the persecution of our people 200 years ago diverts our attention from the tyrannical oppression under which we suffer today. That is the crucial issue for the Sikh nation now. Since 1984, the corrupt and brutal Indian tyrants have killed over 115,000 of our brothers, sisters, and children, yet in the Gurdwaras, the focus seems to be on what happened to our Sikh brothers and sisters 200 years ago. The Mogul is not our enemy now. The enemy of the Sikh nation is the corrupt Indian theocracy which, according to the Indian newspaper Hituvada. paid the late governor of Punjab. Surendra Nath, $1.5 billion (4500 crore rupees) to organize and support covert militant activities in our homeland, Punjab, Khalistan. These acts were then blamed on Sikhs, providing an excuse to shed more Sikh blood. Our enemy is the brutal tyranny that has set up 200 torture centers throughout Punjab, Khalistan, lo brutalize and murder our people. Our enemy is the corrupt tyranny which enforces undemocratic laws like TADA with an iron fist, tortures our Sikh brethren, and keeps 500.000 occupying troops in Punjab, Khalistan, to keep the Sikh nation oppressed. Our enemy is the Indian Govemment, which attacked the Sri Hamandar Sahib and killed 20.000 Sikhs in Punjab alone in Junc. 1984.
In the face of this brutal tyranny, how can the Percharaks and the Kinani Jathas focus on the events of 200 years ago? We need to keep the Sikh nation’s attention focused on the barbarism of today. So, that the Sikh nation may celebrate its 300th birthday in 1999 in a free and sovereign Khalistan. Only an independent Khalistan will and the tyranny to which the Sikh nation is subject. People like you must lead the way, or we shall never be free. It is the preset crisis of the Sikh nation, not the sorry history of two centuries ago, which must be the topic of talks. Please ask your Kathakars and the Kirtani Jatha to address the current crisis facing us rather than the events of the past. We can do nothing about the past but remember. But by speaking about the present tyranny and oppression, we can change them. That is how we make a brighter future for the Sikh nation
Guru bless you and pray for Sarbat Da Bhalla. Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, President, Council of Khalistan Washington, DC
