CHANDIGARH: Mrs, Gurdev Kaur, a poor resident of Rarigian village of Morinda, both of whose sons were allegedly taken away by the police more than a year ago, still does not know what has happened to them. Her husband, who could not bear the agony of the disappearance of his son, is no more a normal human being and has lost his senses. Mrs, Gurdey Kaur had come here, on the advice of a village youth to file a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seek in gap robe into the circumstances leading to the disappearance of her sons. She said that she feared that her sons have been eliminated by the police even though she has not been handed over their bodies.
Besides seeking probe, she has also alleged in her petition that her daughter was also taken away by the police and was subjected to rape.
Her tale of woe began in December 1993 when her husband was allegedly picked up and tortured by the police. He was released after a month, while ‘he was still in police custody, her elder son, Sher Singh, disappeared while he was on his way to a fair in Fatehgarh Sahib. On the advice of villagers, she sent her younger son, Ranjit Singh, to a relative from where he was also allegedly picked up by the police in March 1994, Whereabouts of both of them are still a mystery. She does not know why the police should at all pick them up. Though the police had conducted a raid on her residence and had found nothing for ‘which they could be held guilty. “Also, nothing was recovered from my sons,” she said. But, she has just been able to earn from here and there that the police had accused them of sheltering militants and of involvement in the murder of two persons. But she said the murders to which the police refer, took place when her elder son had disappeared and was perhaps in police custody. Her younger son, Ranjit, she said, was weak and feels that he must have died of police torture.
