The youngest of all modem world religions, Sikhism is a way of life. ‘The Sikh has given to mankind a message of love and faith. Our Gurus Practiced and preached humility, universal brotherhood and: sisterhood, devotion to one God and righteous living. The three main aerobics of Sikh religion include:
Kirt Kami to cam one’s livelihood through hard work and legitimate means,
Naam Japna to recite the name of Wahogura,
Wand Chhakna to share what once has with others (particularly, the needy).
Sikti history is replete with examples ‘of benevolence and sharing on the part of our brethren helping the needy. An example of such a gesture was the money and financial support recently shown by the Sikh community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for Bibi Narinder Kaur, the widow of Sardar Paramjit Singh, who was brutally stabbed and beaten to death on July 21, 1995 in Vienna, VA, A lov of Caring area residents attended a very emotional funeral held on July 29, 1995 in Arlington, VA. (It should be Painted out that the family came to the US. only five years ago from India and had recently moved to the Washington, DC area; neither Paramjit nor Narinder have any relatives or friends here.) In keeping with the Sikh tradition, many families and individuals offered their hand of assistance to Bibi Narinder Kaurand hor wo very small children 6and 12 years old at this very difficult time in their lives. Thdividuals who were collecting the funds were moved when some sina children handed money in support of the Paramjit Singh Memorial Fund, Financial help offered by local businesses in the Washington, DC area shows their humility, kindness, and sense of sharing in times of need such this.
The contributions collected were humbly offered to Bibi Narinder Kaur by Giant Kuldeep Singh Ji, Head Granthi, Sikh Foundation of Virginia, (August 6,1995) following the Akhand Pauth Bhog Ceremony in the memory of the late Sardar Paramjit Singh,
Everyone who contributed to this noble cause is deserving of Waheguru’s blessings, While some money. was raised, the family needs additional help, Even the smallest of contributions helps and will be greatly ‘appreciated by the family.
