NEW DELHI: Without directly naming the United States, Union home minister S.B. Chavan last week accused US military officers of guiding, waning and providing assistance to Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (SH) “which has been carrying out subversive activities in some neighboring countries, including India
“On the one hand, this country says that it stands for world stability and a global move to fight terrorism”, he observed while referring to US President Bill Clinton’s call for a global initiative to combat terrorism and spread of weapons of mass destruction in his recent speech before the UN General Assembly. “They talk of international conventions and about thence to uphold unity, integrity and sovereignty of nations. And yet the other hand, they have been insulating ‘our neighbor (Pakistan) and providing them with arms and military train.
He further said, “I have full information on how military officers (Iron the United Suites) are training the (Pakistani) [St to carry out subversive activities in the neighborhood.” Interestingly, (he /TBP anniversary celebrations was attended by US deputy chief of mission, Mathew P. Daley who sat through the entre function. When contacted, a US Embassy spokesman confirmed Ural Mathew was present at the function. He, however, declined to comment on (Chavan’s accusations.
