NEW DELHI: In a late night swoop, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two former additional private secretaries of Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiela Kaul, the personal assistant to former minister of state in Union Development Ministry, PK. Thungon, and seven other government employees for their alleged involvement in the housing allotment scandal. The CBI, spurred into action by the Supreme Court’s direct intervention in the matter, is least to have sought the President’s assent to question Kaul and Thungon in this connection. At the time of over a 1,000 government houses in the capital, both were handling the Development Ministry with Kaul functioning as Thungan’s senior.

‘The 10 arrested people include Rajan Lala and D.D. Arora, ex additional PS of Kaul and TT. Krishna machari, PA to Thungon.

Besides, three officials of Directorate of Estate have also been nabbed. ‘They are T.C, Saini and Shiv Prasad, both Upper Division Clerks (UDCs), and a section officer R.K. Sharma, From the Urban Development Ministry, the only person to have been arrested apart from Lala and Arora is a peon, K. Behra.

‘The two remaining accused under custody are V.P. Kaushik, a section officer in the Department of Meteorology and Aurora’s son, Virender Arora.
