CHANDIGARH: Over the week 89 persons were killed in Punjab.

Lt General of the Khalistan Liberation Force, Borh Singh, and five members of a family were among 17 persons killed Sunday night.

Freedom fighters made an unsuccessful attempt to blow up a Border Security Force picket at village Dando in Batala police district as the three rockets and a hand grenade fired at the picket missed the target.

Borh Singh, who was carrying a reward of one Lakh Rupees on his head, was killed in an encounter with BSF while he, with 12 men ‘was trying to cross over to Pakistan in Khemkaran IndoPak sector. One Asha Rani was stabbed to death by assailants in Sheila Purana village in Batala Police district.

Elsewhere in the state, assailants shot at and wounded two home guards and a former Sarpanch and looted more than Rs.1.30 Lakh in separate incidents during the same period.

A border security force Naka Party challenged some intruders sneaking into India near the Khemkaran sector of the IndoPak border

On being challenged they started firing which was returned by the BSF men killing one of the intruders.

Armed men shot dead two persons, one identified as Lakhwinder Singh at village Tibri and Hans Raj at village Jeewan, in Gurdaspur district.

On Sept 28, 16 people, including Khalistan National Army chief Ranjit Singh, and a Congress (1) party activists, were killed.

Black Cats kidnaped 5 persons and looted a bank of Rs 25,000 and 3 men were captured during the period in the state.

Bhai Ranjit Singh was killed in an encounter with security forces near village Naserke in Batala police district.

Congress (I) activist Avtar Singh, was shot dead at his residence in Bilga village in Jalandhar district.
