CHANDIGARH: Eighteen persons, including 4 security personnel and 5 militants, were killed and 4 others kidnapped while security forces arrested 5 militants in Punjab during Oct 14.
In an encounter, security forces shot dead Gurmit Singh at Lehra Beta village in Bathinda district. The encounter began following a raid on a farmhouse. A Mauser along with cartridges was recovered from the body of the slain man whose accomplice escaped.
Unidentified men killed Harbajan Singh at Nakosara village in Batala police district and gunned down his nephew, Ram Singh.
Militants ambushed a patrol party near Baler Khan Village in Kapurtha district, killing Constable Gurdeep Singh and Home Guard Bhupinder Singh.
In another ambush constable Jasmail Singh and special police officer Devinder Singh of a patrol party were killed near Sultanwind in Amritsar city. Four other members of the patrol party were injured.
In an encounter security forces shot dead 2 men at Mari Suban Singh village in Tarn Taran police district. Two Ak47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from the dead men, the police claimed.
Some men kidnapped Krishan Kumar from a village in Sangrur district. His whereabouts were still not known.
Two govt contractors Chander Parkash and Kamlesh Kumar were kidnapped from Rayya town in Majitha police district. Their whereabouts were yet not known.
Three persons were wounded when 2 scooter borne men opened fire at a Maruti car near Rurka in Jalandhar district. They were hospitalised. ;
Security forces arrested 5 men following a brief encounter at Chuharchak village in Faridkot district this morning. A 12bore gun and a large number of cartridges were seized from them they were identified as Darbara Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Shingara Singh, Resham Singh and Charanjit Singh.
District police Chief Swaran Singh said the men were wanted in a number of crimes.

A village headman was shot at Fatehgarh Churian in Batala police district while security forces shot dead 1 man in an encounter in Ferozepur dist. Another man was killed in intergang rivalry in Batala police dist.
Elsewhere, militants shot dead 3 security men on leave at village Hotian in Amritsar Dist. including, a special police officer.
One man and police constable were killed in an encounter in Morinda police station area of Ropar dist. Monday night.
One.32 bore revolver and 6 cartridges were recovered from the spot. Three other ultras escaped.
A man was killed in Sursingh wala area of Bhikhiwind in Tam Taran police dist last night.
Two bullet ridden bodies were recovered from Gaggar Bhana and Udhoke in Mehta area of Majitha police dist.
Satnam Singh Bajwa, in Dhaul Kalan village and shot dead 13 people and injured two others in Amnitsar city, a report from Amritsar said.
Bajwa was killed a few years back.
Jeet Singh area commander of the KNA was killed in an encounter with security forces in Majitha police district on Saturday night, an Amnitsar report quoting district chief P S Gill said.

Security forces shot dead one manner in Tarn Taran area on the outskirts of Jalandhar Friday night of Amritsar district. Police said large number of weapons two persons were shot dead in Ferozepur district and Patiala district respectively. A religious person was gunned down in Tarn Taran district while another man fell to bullets in Amritsar district.
