CHANDIGARH: Security forces killed 808 freedom fighters in 907 encounters during the last two years of Presidents rule in Punjab. This was disclosed at a press conference by the financial kapur. As many as 7,000 militants were arrested during this period whereas three thousand were arrested before this and are already in jails. S.L. Kapur further said that during Barnala’s rule there were 192 encounters and 136 freedom fighters were killed and 2700 were arrested.
Kapur said these figures spoke of the well-planned action plan and drive of the security forces
against terrorist who were now being exposed in their true colors. There was a new realization among the people who now had no sympathy for these criminals murderers and robbers.
The “Maryada” of Golden Temple had been restored and now common people were thronging it every day. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee was now in full control of the Golden Temple and the administration had taken all steps to ensure that no terrorist could use the sacred shrine for their nefarious and sinister motives.
Referring to the resettlement of the Sikh families who migrated to Punjab in the wake of the November 1984, disturbances in Delhi
and other places, Kapur said that of the 21093 Sikh families, 9930 had returned to their respective States.
He said to those who decided to resettle in Punjab 733 LIG houses 459 houses on concessional terms 382 residential plot as at a price 20 ‘percent below the reserve price, 604 commercial plots at reserve Price, 487 booths or built up shops on reserve price, 75 industrial plots and 77 ration depots had been allotted, Though S.L. Kapur has drawn a rosy picture of improvement but police sources keeping their anonymity say that repression and killing of youth in fake encounters has further deteriorated the situation and has alienated Sikhs.
