AMRITSAR: Hindi speaking men wearing police uniforms shot dead 8 persons in Anagaballianwali village situated in Ram Tirath in Majitha police district.
Among the killed is a Sub-Inspector of police and a milkman. The rest belong to the Baba Bairagi sect living in the village for generations.
The incident took place according to an eyewitness Surjit Chand, early in the morning. There were about 15 men some in police uniform. All spoke Hindi. They came in a van. They called out the men and lined them up. Surjit Chand ran off when he saw that the Sten gun pointed at him failed to fire perhaps due to a mechanical fault. He ran for his life with bullets whizzing past him. He crawled into a wheat field. Seeing the others too began running. But only two Raghbir and Amarnath survived to tell the tale. Eight men were shot on the spot.
