YUBA CITY, CALIFORNIA: City Council of Yuba City resolved to proclaim the month of October, 1986 Sri Guru Granth Sahib month at its meeting held here on Oc00700906tober 6, 1986.

In an identical proclamation issued there on October 7, 1986, the Sutter County Board of Su pervisors declared the week of November 2 through November 8, 1986, as Sikh Temple Week in Sutter County in honour of the 278th Anniversary Coronation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

To celebrate this historic occasion a coronation parade is held here every year. The Seventh Annual Parade is scheduled for November 2, 1986. The celebrations include Bhog ceremony of Sri Akhand Path at 9:30 a.m, The Parade will start at 11 am, and return to the Sikh Temple, 2468 Tierra Buena Road, at 3 p.m.

Proclamation of the City Council Sri Guru Granth Sahib Month

WHEREAS, after the founding of the Sikh Religion by Guru Nanak, the Sikhs were led by a succession of Gurus; and

WHEREAS, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs proclaimed on November 8, 1708, that in the future, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the book of the holy scriptures of the Sikh Religion, would be the leader of the Sikhs.

WHEREAS, Sikhs from the Province of the Punjab constitute the largest religious, social, and ethnic group among the immigrants from India to California

WHEREAS, the largest concentration of Sikhs, their families, and descendants in the United States of America is found in Sutter County and its environs; and

WHEREAS, Sikh immigrants have made significant and important contributions to the agricultural development of Sutter County and the entire Sacramento Valley; and

WHEREAS, members of this important religious denomination, their families, and their descendants continue to play an important role in the social, cultural, professional, business, economic ‘and spiritual life of Sutter County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Ronald Southard, Mayor of the City of Yuba City, and on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of October, 1986, as SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB Month in the City of Yuba City in commemoration of the Coronation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of the Sikhs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Yuba City do hereby extend their best wishes to the Sikh community of Yuba Sutter region for a successful seventh annual parade on Sunday, November 2, 1986, which marks the opening of their celebration of the Coronation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that I urge the citizens of Yuba City to learn more about our Sikh Community and the colorful culture and history it has brought to the Yuba Sutter region,

SIKH TEMPLE WEEK November 28, 1986

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors’ of Sutter County hereby proclaim the week of November 2 through November 8, 1986, as Sikh Temple Week in Sutter County in honor of the Coronation of the present Guru and Leader
