LONDON: The United States is to supply complete kits for 775 armored personnel carriers (APC) to be assembled in Pakistan.

A joint production contract between the ground systems division of the FMC Corporation, California and the government of Pakistan calls on the US. to provide complete M113A2 kits which will then be used to manufacture the APC at a plant being prepared in Pakistan.

Pakistani defense officials have approved the first two M113A2 APC hulls representing the initial units in a first package of 20 kits and the remaining 18 vehicle hulls are scheduled for delivery to Pakistan over the next five months.

“Jane’s Defense Weekly” reported in its latest issue.

The four and a half year joint production contract signed earlier this year, originally called for 500 MI113A2 kits to be delivered to Pakistan between 1990.and 1992. An additional 275 hulls were added to the order under a contract extension completed in August bringing the total order to 775 the Report said.

The first package differs from the remaining vehicle kits in that the hulls are being delivered to Pakistan in welded form, The remaining vehicle kits are scheduled for delivery in kit form and will require welding at the New Pakistani facility, starting late next year.
