PATIALA: The Shiromani Babbar Akali Dal has condemned the alleged killing of seven innocent persons used as shields by the security forces during an encounter at Behla village in Amritsar district.
Ina press statement issued here Gurdarshan Singh Maloya vice president of the party said that the Behla incident had proved that no citizen was safe in the hands of the security forces. He alleged that the police had been killing innocents in the name of operations against militants.
Maloya said that the Babbar Akali Dal had formed a three member committee to enquire in to the Bhelaencounter He said that the committee would submit its report in 10 days. Jasbir Singh Jhabal Satwant Singh Amritsar and Iqbal Singh Sultanwind are the members of committee.
The joint action committee of teachers and employees of the Punjabi University has urged the Chief Minister Beant Singh to take follow-up action on a memorandum submitted to him last month.
Narinder Singh Kapoor convener of the action committee in a statement issued said that they had requested the Chief Minister to appoint a regular vice-chancellor in order to end the atmosphere of uncertainty.
The JAC expressed concern over the university authorities inaction in a case of assault on Dr.G.L.Garg by certain persons. The joint action committee demanded to count previous service for granting of senior selection grades to the university teachers as per the UGC directions. The committee also demanded releasing the withheld salary of Dr.R.N.Pal.
A local shopkeeper Jawahar Lal has made a written complaint to the DIG Railways alleging that an ASI of the Railway Police had beaten him up and snatched Rs 2285 from him
The shopkeeper has alleged that ASI Balbir Singh along with the certain constables came to his shop on June 4 and said that he (shopkeeper) was summoned by the AIG. Railway Police and he were taken to the Model Town residence of the AIG. The shopkeeper alleged that he was abused and beaten up on the excuse that he had overcharged.
