NEW DELHI: There have been violent clashes between rival factions, apparently between (Indus and Muslims in the Indian state of Ahmadabad, According to BBC at least seven people were killed and 29 injured when fighting broke out during a festival at which kites were flown bearing opposition political slogan on Sunday.
The authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew after the fighting spread through Ahmadabad and shops and vehicles were set on fire. In one incident two people were stabbed and the rickshaw in which they were travelling was set on fire. When they tried to escape the crowd pushed them back in the rickshaw.
An identified curfew was also immediately clamped on the worst hit Kalupur and Danapur districts of the city. Police Opened fire in some areas and used tear-gas to break up the fighting crowds police spokesman told Reuters by telephone, He said there were no casualties in the police firing.
