CHANDIGARH, India: ‘About 6,000 D.M.K. volunteers including its President, Mr. Karunanidhi were arrested in various parts of Tamil Nadu on December 9, on charges of burning copies of the Constitution to mark the final days of anti-Hindu agitation.

In the city, Mr. Karunanidhi sent 3600 other volunteers including 39 women who were arrested for burning piece of paper containing the sentences that the official Language of the Union will be Hindi in Dev Nagri Script. All arrested persons were remanded to 15 days judicial custody,

Six policemen were injured When D.M.K. supporters indulged in stone throwing; one fire service vehicle and three vehicles of state food corporation were damaged. Attempts were made to burn buses.

  1. detonator exploded in the ‘outskirts of the complex of Dakshna Bharat Hindi Parchar sabha , no one was injured.
