LUCKNOW :Six policemen including a deputy superintendent of police, were killed when a bridge on the Gadari river was blown up along with the Gypsy they were traveling in Naini Tal district at 5:30 p.m. Sept.23.

According to the police, as the police jeep reached the Gadari river bridge on the Bajpur-Kaadhungi road, three in from Bapur town, militants blew it with powerful explosives. The jeep was blown to pieces, according to reports reaching here.

This is second major militant strike in the state since this time, on Sept.22, they had thrown four persons in the Goma river in Shahjahanpur district militant violence has claimed more than 40 lives at different places in the state this month,

The bodies of two Constable Mushir Ahmad and Ram Prase Misora, were fished out of the Gadari River about one hour after the explosion, They were part of police party led by the Ram Asra Yadav, DSP. Search was on to recover the other bodies from the river.

The others killed in the explosion were the station officer (SO), Gadarapur, M Upadhyay and two constables. They were going to conduct a raid in a nearby village.

Senior police officers, including the DIG, Garhwal range, and a SSP, Naini Tal, rushed to the spot to supervise investigations, A alert has been sounded in to neighboring districts and massive hunt has been launched for the militants.
