AHMEDABAD: At least six persons, including two women, were killed and about 12 others injured in a violence which erupted during Tazia (Muslim religious) processions in Baroda and Patdi town of Surendranagar district on the occasion of Muharrum (Shia day of mourning) in Gujarat since Monday night.
Five persons lost their lives in police firing and stabbing incidents in Vadi city and Panigate police station areas of Baroda city during the procession Tuesday afternoon. Indefinite curfew was imposed in the areas from 1545 hours, police said, Police resorted to firing to quell two groups of people indulging in violence and attacking each other when the procession was passing through Fatehpura, Panigate, Mandvi and Vadi police station areas.
One person was killed and two others were injured when police opened fire to disperse stone pelting mobs at Patdi town.
