CHANDIGARH: A five member committee appointed by the Damdami Taksal sponsored Sarhat Khalsa convention has charged the S.G.P.C. with the illegal possession of hundreds of Sikh shrines and threatened to throw them out from all these shrines. A Sarbat Khalsa convention will be held on Apni 13 to take appropfiate decisions to throw out S.G.P.C. the committee said in an open letter to Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala. The letter written in English was signed by the secretary Mr. Gurdarshan Singh. The letter said that Mr. Sunjit Singh will be taking the greatest risk of his life if he sent paramilitary forces inside the Golden Temple complex. The letter hinted that this committee will hold meetings of the managements of the historical Gurdwaras. The letter also said that the S.P.P.C. and other managements had out-lived their terms.
Meanwhile the Bhartia Janata party has expressed concern at the spurt in violent activities in Punjab and called upon the Barnala government to deal with the situation with a firm hand. In a meeting of its National office-bearers presided over by its President Mr. Vajpajee the BJP emphasized the point that the primary duty of the Government was to protect the life and property of the common man However the Barnala Government had failed to stem the tide of violence. He called upon the Union and the State Governments to act in concert to ensure that the menace of violence was effectively checked.
