CHANDIGARH (PTI): Five militants and a police constable were among six killed in the north Indian state of Punjab over might Sept.3, while “Operation Night Dominance” entered its fourth phase with its launching in the city of Ludhiana.

Police launched the fourth phase of “Operation Night Dominance” in Ludhiana under the leadership of inspector general (operation), Punjab Suba Singh, Ludhiana SSP, S. Chattopadhyaya, said.

He said here Gulab Singh alias Gulaba alias love Preet, an area commander of the Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan (Pawat), a militant outfit, was killed in an encounter with the police on Sept4.

Gunmen also kidnapped a brick kiln owner, Varinder Kumar near village Chhandran in Ludhiana district.

Constable Gurmail Singh of the Punjab police was killed while Constable Daulat Ram of the Punjab armed police and a Punjab home guard, Jawan Bhola Singh, were injured, when a group of unidentified militants ambushed them in Bajewal village under Mansa police district Thursday evening.

Militant Gurmit Singh was killed in a cross fire, when a police party accompanying him for recovery of arms was attacked by a group of militants, near village Roore Maur in Batala police district Sept4.

Another unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces near village Badowal under Fatehgarh Churian police station of the same district.

Two unidentified militants were killed in separate encounters near village Bhadesan in Fatehgarh Sahib district and village Khanpurf Ludhiana district,

A police report from Amritsar said three suspected militants of the Khalistan Commando Force surrendered after a brief encounter with security forces near village Gharinda on the Indo-Pak border also on Thursday night. The militants were identified as Sukhbir Singh alias Nikka, Santokh Singh alias Lali and Harmeet Singh alias Neetu.

A militant identified as Boota Singh alias Bachan Singh was apprehended by security forces in Faridkot district.
