LUCKNOW: A five-cornered contest is unfolding for the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh with candidates of the Congress (I) the Samajwadi Janata Party the Janata Dal the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party dividing the votes for most of the 425 seats.

Three former or present chief ministers are among a host of prominent politicians in the contest for the assembly elections.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav who heads the SJP in the state is seeking reelection from Jaswantnagar N D Tiwari is in the fray in Haldwani constituency.

Another former chief minister Ram Naresh Yadav is also contesting from his home constituency Sikohabad.

‘All the members of the council of minister of Yadav excepting five have been nominated by the for the elections.

The chief minister won the Jaswantagar seat in the 1989 elections by polling over 65000 votes in a contest where 14 other candidates including one of the BJP were in the fray. This time he is locked in the battle of the ballot with four candidates in a multi-corner contest including those of Janata Dal.N D Tiwari who is also contesting the Nainital seat for the Lok Sabha is being challenged by 22 others including the nominees of the Janata Dal the SIP the BJP the BSP and the Doordarshi party
