CHANDIGARH: Five policemen including two head constables and three constables were killed by militants at Barara in Ambala district in the northern Indian state of Haryana Thursday night.

A group of militants ambushed the Haryana police party in Barara around 2030 hours and shot dead five of them. The assailants fled in their car after committing the crime.

According to police a landmine exploded near Jassowal village in Ludhiana district Thursday evening when a patrol vehicle passed over it. The driver constable Mohinder Singh and constable Deepak Kumar were seriously injured in the incident it said.

Two miltants were killed in Gare village in Sangrur district and were identified as Babu Singh and Gobinder Singh Gunmen went to the house of one Hardeep Singh of Tatna village in the Qadian police station area of Batala police district and shot him dead while another person Swaran Singh was shot dead in Machhiwara village in Ludhiana district His brother was shot an injured in the incident.

Gandhar Singh of Ujjat Bhagatram village in Bathinda district was kidnapped and later shot dead by gunmen on Thursday.

Gunmen also shot down a couple Kundan Singh and his wife Veero in Padri village of Amritsar district Wednesday night.

Pradeep Kumar owner of a cotton factory was kidnapped from his factory in Bathinda district Wednesday night while Patiala police recovered one AK-47 rifle one magazine and some cartridges from one Bagha Singh. The accused managed to escape police said.

 Two militants Amarjit Singh and Gurmail Singh were nabbed in Tam Taran district Wednesday. One AK-47 one 308 pistol and a large quantity of cartridges were seized from then.
