HAKKARI, TURKEY: Security forces and Kurdish guerrillas fought for 10 hours recently in a battle that killed at least 43 guerrillas and 10 soldiers, the regional governor’s office in Diyarbakir announced,
Twelve soldiers were wounded in the fighting with the separatists of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party near the town of Semdinli in Hakkari province, a statement from the office said.
The fighting was the biggest single clash between soldiers and guerrillas in this south eastern province since the Kurdish rebels began fighting in 1984 to seek self-rule in the region.
