NEW DELHI: The Election Commission announced bye-elections to two parliamentary and two assembly constituencies on Feb 27 to coincide with the polls to eight states and one union territory.
The constituencies are Maharajgang in Bihar and Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh while the assembly seats are Dharwar (rural) in Karnataka and Meerut cantonment (UP).
The Commission while announcing the poll schedule for eight States and the union territory of Pondicherry had deferred bye-elections to these constituencies till it had ascertained the position regarding any pending election petitions which bar holding of elections.
Talking to reporters here, deputy election commissioner Dr. RP. Bhalla said the commission had since verified the position and found that there were no election petitions pending.
He said the poll schedule for these bye-elections would be the same as for the eight states and Pondicherry.
