FRESNO: In the third incident in recent weeks an immigrant clerk has been the victim of robber/ killers. Although the victims and criminals were different the basic facts were the same.
A young man hoping to live the American dream working long hours to support his family was killed for a few dollars or a few beers.
Abdo Ali was the most recent victim of the dream that became a nightmare. During an apparent robbery of his Westside Market in south-west Fresno Ali a Yemen immigrant was shot to death. Police say they have no suspects and detectives need help in solving the murder.
“My brother is dead” said Samy Hauter sighing while saying that life is becoming cheap in Fresno. “I don’t understand. He would not harm anyone.”
Ali 35 came to the United States 18 years ago and was a naturalized citizen Hauter said. Ali moved to Fresno from San Francisco a month ago with his wife and seven children.
On April 16 he opened his market at 2496 S.Elm Ave. and worked there each day from 7 a.m. until closing at 8 p.m.
“He was the nicest man” said Minerva Larlos 82 who lived across the street from the store with other neighbors.
They all wanted to know who killed Ali.
Larlos said Ali always had a smile for his patrons and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
Ali was found later on shot behind the counter by Mahmood Kaid a store employee around 8:30 a.m.
Kaid found him alive and called an ambulance. He died later on in a local hospital.
Robbery seems to be the motive behind the murder according to police sources.
