HYDERABAD: Thirty eight people were killed and at least 45 injured when a holiday special train bound for Bombay city, collided head on with an empty goods train between Shankar palli and Gullagudu station on the Secunderabad Wadi section of the south central railway Monday night.

The injured were brought to Secunderabad by a special train and admitted to various hospitals of the twin cities.

The number of causalities are feared to be more as several passengers are trapped in the sixth derailed coach of the ill-fated train.

Rescue, relief and medical teams from the railways, Bhel and nearby defence ordnance units had rushed to the accident site.

Cold welding machines were being used to cut open two smashed bogies and officials feared that with passengers trapped inside them, the causality figure might be more.
