GUWAHATI: Two persons were shot dead while a militant committed suicide as 35 United Liberation Front of Assam activists including some of their leaders were rounded up under operation Bajrang by the security forces from several parts of Assam.

Security forces Jan 5 shot dead an escaping ULFA militant during searches in Gariating Bagan and Dhalakhata tea estate areas in Assams Tinsukia district an official spokesman said.

 An abandoned ULFA camp was discovered by the security forces while chasing some suspected militants escaping to a grove in sibasnagar district in the ensuing cross-fire one person died whose body was handed over to the relatives.

In a major breakthrough the spokesman said the army arrested the district commander of ULFA Megha Phukan from village Gobavnbari in Lakhimpur district.
