CHANDIGARH: Thirty four people, including four freedom fighters were killed in Punjab over the past week.

Two men of the “Babbar Khalsa” were gunned down by police in a fierce encounter.

Eleven persons of three families were gunned down on Oct. 22.

Hira Singh and Kabul Singh of the Babbar Khalsa, were killed in a fierce encounter at a farm house in village Mijohal Wara in Tarn Taran district.

Police said Lt. General of the KCF, Kamaljit Singh Sultanwind, consumed cyanide and an area commander of the outsit, Nirmal Singh Mimma, was gunned down by security forces in Jalandhar city.

While being taken to the police station, Nirmal Singh “jumped” out of the jeep and security personnel shot him dead. Kamalji Singh “consumed cyanide’ and was declared dead at a local hospital.

The governor, Siddharth Shankar Ray, said that the police would have been happy to capture them alive. “We would have liked to interrogate them,” he said.

Genmen struck in Chak Mishri Khan village in Amritsar district and gunned down five members of a family, including three brothers, police said.

Two men were killed in an encounter with Jawans at the Nurwali border security forces picket on the Indo-Pak border in Khem Kakan area in Amritsar district.

In this past week the police claims to have arrested 23 men for “anto-national” activities.

Others killed were Pritam Chad, his wife and father in village KotIse Khan in Ferozepore district.

Joginder Singh, his two bothers and his son in village Lidhar of Amritsar district. Two brothers, Balkar Singh and Sucha Singh of village Mohar of Amritsar district were gunned down when they refused to yield the huge amount of money demanded by the Ultras.

Six persons, were killed, three arrested on Oct. 20.

Satnam Singh Changiara Gen, of the BTFK gave a slip to the security forces in Amritsar but his two close associates were captured near Saranga village, the reports said.

Major Singh and Sukhdev Singh, arrested near village Saranga, were en gaged in bringing arms and ammunitions across the Pakistan borders, the report said.

Two men were killed in an “encounter” near village Chapparanwall in Ferozpore and one near village Sakhowal in Gurdaspur district.

The new version of the Chinese rifles, AK56, first of their kind, were recovered from the “encounter” scene near village Chappa ranwali, police spokesman said.

Three brothers, one of them a personnel of a home guard, were killed and three people were injured on Oct. 19.

Home guard Satpai Singh was shot dead in his house in Gurdaspur district. Satpal Singh posted at the PSEB office at Wadala Granthi, was on leave.

Five people, including two members of the Communist Party of India (CPI), were killed last week.

Gunmen also looted about Rs 52,000 from the Punjab and Sind bank branch in Chak Karekhan village in Tarn Taran district.

Two unidentified men were killed in an “encounter” near Sangrawan village, Batala, while another escaped, police said. An AK47 rifle, two magazines, one Mauser and a large quantity of ammunition was seized from the spot.

Police said a gang of seven went to the houses of two senior CPI workers in Fariokot district, in Saidoke village of Faridkot district and took both of them to the house of another CPI worker.
