JAMMU: Thirty four persons were killed in the Kashmir valley while over 200 militants were arrested by security forces during searches since May 4.
A pistol and a magazine were recovered from him the spokesperson said.
Official sources said an unidentified body was found floating in the river Jhelum while another was recovered from Ali Zan Road in Srinagar’s soura locality. The body has been identified as that of Omkarnath who was abducted from his home Friday night.
A schoolteacher was also gunned down by militants in Pulwama unofficial reports said.
However, the official spokesperson did not confirm the teacher’s death.
He said in the continued drive by the state administration against militants in the state, 33 were arrested by security forces in Bandipur sector Saturday morning.
An intensive search for hideouts of the militants was launched early Saturday in Sopore and 21 suspects including two harbourers had been picked up for questioning.
The militants are fighting for the secession of Kashmir from India.
Others have been arrested from different parts of the valley.
Two persons were injured when militants fired at them near Danihama village in the outskirts of Srinagar. One of them is in a serious condition.
Two top activists of the Hizbul Mujahideen Yasser Bhat and Showkat Ahmed Jan were among nearly 60 people arrested by the security forces during raids on the suspected hideouts of the militants in Bandipora in Baramulla district.
