BOMBAY: Gold, weighing 33.6 kg and valued at Rs 1.09 crore was seized by officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (ATU) at the Bombay airport on May 22.
An Air India employee and his contact man were being interrogated following the seizure of 240 bars weighing 28 kg from an Air India aircraft which arrived from Bangkok early today.
An intelligence officer noticed the Air India employee removing one jacket containing 120 gold bars. He later pointed out the second jacket in the toilet. When the employee said that a contact man was waiting outside for his signal the officials rushed and picked him up. The businessman in Bombay central who the contact man said was the brain behind the racket is absconding.
In another case, the officials found 49 gold bars and a gold coin weighing 5.6 kg from an air conditioner which arrived from Dubai.
