LUDHIANA: As many as 30 persons ‘were injured, two of them seriously, fi a bomb blast that occurred in the Lottery market near clock tower around 2:10 pm.
“The low intensity crude bomb exploded in a tea stall cum lottery shop in the crowded market. Most of the victims were customers. The explosion made a four inch deep crater in the floor.
The senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Hardip Singh Dhillon, disclosed that the bomb had been kept below the sales counter of the shopkeeper, Mr. Kharaiti Lal.
The latter has denied any knowledge of the bomb. He said he was preparing tea for customers when the explosion ‘occurred and cold drink bottles in the shop came tumbling down. Some shops in the vicinity had their sales counters damaged with the impact.
The police officials led by Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Shashi Kant, rushed to the spot and were investigating the blast.
The blast, the first in the city after restoration of normalcy nearly three years ago, occurred just below the Bank of India office.
Of the injured, 22 have been admitted to Christian Medical College Hospital and Civil Hospital. Eight others ‘were sent home after first aid,
