NEW DELHI, India About 700 sex experts from 30 countries gathered here Monday in the land of the Kama Sutra for one of the world’s biggest conference on sexuality, ranging from AIDS and aphrodisiacs to anatomically correct dolls in sex education.
The seventh World Congress of Sexology begins a five-day meeting Tuesday on the theme “Sexuality in a Changing World.” The last conference was held in Washington in 1983.
Papers, panel discussions and workshops will cover a wide range of topics, including the sexual behavior of young French people and American college students, sexual myths, eunuchs sex and drugs, sex education, quacks in sex therapy.
Sexology and astrology, homosexuality, sex and yoga and clinical sexual problems also will be discussed by sex therapists, doctors, educators, psychiatrists and others. Prof. Prakash Kothari, spokesman for the conference, said the sex experts would try educating general physicians, clearing away the myths of sex potions and pushing for worldwide acceptance of family planning.
They will also take a scientific look at the Kama Sutra, the classical Indian text on sex and family relations written 1,600 years ago. An audiovisual program is scheduled.
Renowned Indian musician Ravi Shankar will discuss music and eroticism.
