CHANDIGARH (PTI): Three top militants were among 21 persons killed in separate incidents in the north Indian state of Punjab on Sept.5, police said.
A militant identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Happy, was killed in an encounter with security forces near village Khurd pur of Jalandhar district. Police recovered a pistol and a Mauser from the encounter site.
The militant, travelling on a scooter along with a lady opened fire on the security personnel, when asked to stop.
In the exchange of fire the militant was killed but the whereabouts of the lady were not known,
Airport from Amritsar said atop militant and Lt. Gen. of a militant outfit, the Bhindranwale Tiger Force of Khalistan (Manochahal group) Amritpal Singh alias Nandpuri along with two others, who could not be identified, were killed in an encounter with security forces near village Kourevidan under Sarhali police station of Tam Taran police district.
In the exchange of fire, the arrested militant, Buta Singh alias Pargat, “Lt. Gen.” of the Khalistan Liberation Force, a militant outfit, and one unidentified militant of the attacking party were killed.
The security forces shot dead two militants, identified as Mohan Inderjit Singh and Partap Singh, in a gun battle near village Buttar Roshan Shah in Ferozepur district Gunmen gunned down one Ajaib
Singh after taking him out of his house in village Bajewal under Jaurkian police station Friday night.
Shamsher Singh, a militant of the Babbar Khalsa International, was gunned down in an encounter with the security forces near village Jalal under Dayalpur police station of Bathinda district.
Gunmen attacked the Delhi bound Atari-Delhi special train, Samjhota express, between Butari and Beas stations on the Amritsar Jalandhar main line, No loss of life was reported.
Security forces, in separate encounters in Ropar and Kapurthala districts, killed two unidentified militants.
