NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday announced the setting up of three special sessions courts to deal exclusively with cases of November 1984 riots in the capital following the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
The special courts would be located at Tis Hazani, Patiala House and Shahdara, a Delhi administration press release said.
The administration has also designated special prosecutors to help the three courts and to coordinate with the police, Proceedings of the prosecution will be monitored periodically to ensure expeditious disposal of the cases,
While 225 cases involving more than 2,300 persons have been registered’ in the wake of the riots, only 107 cases have been disposed of so far. The remaining cases are pending trial at various levels.
