SRINAGAR: Three Sikh militants and two Kashmiri militants were among 22 rounded up by security forces during the past 24 hours in India’s northern most state of Jammu and Kashmir

Militants clashed with security forces in at least two places during the same period but no one was injured in the incidents official sources said

Sixteen houses and shops were gutted in two separate fire incidents in downtown Srinagar early Thursday that three Sikh mililants were overpowered during an encounter between them and security forces in Ranbir Singh Pura sector in Jammu region Thursday.

Five A k 47 rifles six pistols one stenguns eight grenades and Rs 10050 were recovered from the captured militants he added.

The spokesman said 17 suspected subversives were picked up during house-to-house search Operations in Kursoo Rajbagh which was cordoned off by the paramilitary forces Thursday following attack on a Central Reserve Police Patrol party.

A hardcore militant belonging to Tehreek-E-Jehad-Islami was nabbed in Srinagar on Monday while another trained militant was arrested from Nishat with one A k 47 rifle the spokesman said.

Militants hurled a grenade on a vehicle of security forces at Bud shah Chowk in the heart of the city late Thursday afternoon. However the device missed the target and exploded on the foot-path causing no damage official sources said.

Earlier security forces were attacked at Gangipora Wanpoh in Anantnag district by militants Wednesday night. No loss of life was reported in the incident the police spokesman said.
