CHANDIGARH, India: The Punjab government ordered the much awaited promotion of six senior police officers — three DIGs and three SSPs —— some of whom have been given important posts.
The DIGs promoted to the rank of IG are Mr. Sube Singh, Mr. R.P. Joshi and Mr. D.S. Bhullar. Mr. Sube Singh, erstwhile DIG (Security), has been appointed IG (Crime). Mr. R.P. Joshi becomes IG (Operations) while Mr. D.S. Bhullar has been posted as Commandant General, Home Guards.
In consequential changes, Mr. MS. Aulakh, Mr. D.R. Bhatti and Mr. G.LS. Bhullar have been promoted to the rank of DIG. Mr. Aulakh has been appointed DIG (Counterintelligence), Mr. Bhatti becomes DIG, Jullundur range, and Mr. Bhullar will be DIG in the PAP.
Mr. Gurbachan Jagat, who had earlier been shifted from intelligence and appointed DIG (Counterintelligence) now becomes DIG (Administration).
The government had considered promotion of senior police officers to higher ranks a month ago but postponed a decision further assessment of their performance.
