CHANDIGARH: Mr Baldev Singh Lang an Akali Dal (Mann) candidate for the Samana Assembly constituency was gunned down by militants near Ranghera village in Patiala district on Tuesday.
Dr.Pritam Singh an independent candidate for the Nabba Assembly seat was also killed along with his driver and another person.
The elections to these two constituencies have been countermanded with these two killings the elections to 18 Assembly seats has been put off in addition to the Ludhiana Parliamentary constituency
An Akali -Badal candidate for the Attari assembly seat Dalbir Singh Ranike was shot dead on June 1. However new timetable has since been announced for 11 Assembly and the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat. The elections to these scats will be held on June 22.
According to a report from Armitsar another Dal (Mann) candidate Tarlochan Singh Tur contesting for Tarn Taran Assembly seat narrowly escaped a militant attack at his village Tur on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile the Amritsar police had detained a dozen candidates for the Assembly and the Lok Sabha for being “non-serious” contestants. They had reportedly refused police security. They are being kept in safe custody by the police and are being removed to cool places like Simla Punjab these days is in a heat wave with mercury touching 41 C.
