SRINAGAR, AUG.12: An indefinite curfew continued in four downtown police station areas for the 10th day while life remained paralyzed elsewhere in the Kashmir valley due to a spontaneous bandh.

Ten militants were among seventeen persons killed while the security forces apprehended 16 militants.

The security forces cordoned off Gutlibagh and Armpora villages in Kupwara district to catch militants and their harborers. During searches at Armpora, an encounter took place during which two militants were killed. Two others were arrested at Gutlibagh and weapons were seized from them.

BSF patrol shot dead a Muslim woman at Kunzar in Baramula district. A youth was killed while fleeing in a field in the Ladakh region.

A militant being taken to a security force camp after his arrest at Badgam was shot dead, Residents held a protest demonstration in the village.  

‘Two persons were killed and four injured in Anantnag district of south Kashmir in an exchange of fire.

‘An indefinite curfew continued in several localities of the City, However, a two-hour relaxation was given recently in these areas for the first time to enable people to purchase essential commodities. Security forces were deployed in strength in these areas to enforce curfew restrictions; there was no report of any curfew violation.

Life remained paralyzed due to a spontaneous bandh in the Kashmir valley, including curfew free areas of Srinagar city. Shops and business establishments remained. Closed and traffic was off the road.

All state and central government offices and educational institutions were closed as employees stayed.

JAMMU: Militants attacked Mahore police station on Friday. An official spokesman said here on Friday that20 militants attacked the police station around4:10 a.m. They locked certain rooms where police personnel were sleeping and opened fire. The policemen returned the fire from within the police station, the encounter continued for more than one hour, later, the militants fled. According to reports, there was no casualty on the police side.
